Who, Why, How
The Wildland Emergency Medical Symposium (WEMS) is committed to providing an impartial and unbiased platform for education and collaboration in the field of Fireline medicine.
WEMS is operated in cooperation by Adventure Medics and EMS Unlimited. Future positions on this board of operators will become available based on conference success and growth. We want to emphasize that this symposium is not intended as a recruiting event, advertising event, or a means to secure preferential treatment for any individual or contractor. Contractors are encouraged to participate, but no contractor -- ourselves included -- will be allowed to advertise or recruit at the Symposium. The focus of this event is on education and professional development. Lecturers and educators will be selected impartially based on their merit as educators and providers.
100% of net proceeds from this symposium will be donated to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. Some funds will be used to cover Symposium costs including: staff hours, catering, conference space, marketing and advertising, lecturer fees, etc.
We are actively seeking sponsors and vendors to assist with event costs. These vendors will be businesses such as equipment, vehicle, medical, and outdoor industries, and will not include any contractors. Similarly, we are pursuing sponsors from area hospitals and educational organizations. While we understand that government agencies may not be inclined to participate due to potential conflicts of interest, we firmly believe that the success of this symposium depends on the collaboration of federal agencies, local cooperators, and private contractors. Together, we can work to elevate medical care in the austere and challenging environment of wildland fire.
